Roosters Picking on hens
If a rooster is picking on a hen, it's often a result of the rooster's natural instincts to assert dominance and mate with the hens. However, if not addressed, it can lead to stress and injury among the hens.
One way to reduce this behavior is to ensure that there are enough hens in the flock. Roosters ideally need a ratio of at least 10 hens per rooster to help spread out mating attempts and reduce the likelihood of over-mating and injury to the hens. Providing plenty of space, hiding spots, and enrichment for the hens can also help reduce stress and minimize aggressive behavior from the rooster.
It's important to monitor the flock closely and intervene if you notice any signs of distress or injury among the hens. Separating the rooster from the hens for a period can help give the hens a break and allow them to recover.
